Gord Lowe is Focused on the Future
|
|
As a third term Alderman, Gord will continue to
focus on the issues that matter to his constituents, including: |
|
|
|
Ward 2: |
|
|
- Completing the extension of LRT to Crowfoot Centre. This
extension is planned to be completed and in operation in 2008. Work
is underway on the Nose Hill Drive/Crowchild Trail interchange, the
LRT park and ride facility and LRT station. Track is being laid for
the extension from Dalhousie Station to Crowfoot Landing.
- Improving Transit shuttle service between the communities in
Ward 2 and the LRT stations serving those communities ensuring
residents of Ward 2 have efficient, reliable access to affordable
transit service city wide.
- Managing traffic and noise conditions along John Laurie
Boulevard, Country Hills Boulevard, Nose Hill Drive, Sarcee and
Shaganappi Trails.
- Ensuring development agreements with those developing land in
Symons Valley are honoured. That the road and downstream
intersection improvements required to meet the demands of the new
communities are built co-incident with development.
- Ensuring transportation connections within Symons Valley are in
place so residents of Symons Valley can access their
neighboring communities, recreation and shopping facilities.
- Managing and monitoring development and redevelopment of land
and properties in Ward 2.
- Improving employment and recreation opportunities in Ward 2.

City Wide: |
|
|
- Monitor the effectiveness of the current three year capital and
operating budgets and financial reporting systems in order to
improve the way the City collects, spends, controls and reports
about how tax payers money is used as the City moves into it’s next
three year budget cycle.
- Transportation and Transit – a major priority city wide.
- The environment - implement curb side recycling in a cost and
environmentally responsible manner, expand the City’s green
initiative, encourage environmentally sustainable construction and
development.
- Plan now to shelter the homeless before we have a crisis
situation to deal with.
- Participate in planning for affordable housing, city wide.
- Continue the Cost of Growth and Financing Growth studies
undertaken in the past three years. Ensure growth pays for itself –
both in the new development areas and in the redeveloping areas in
the City centre.
- Safety and Security – ensure we have adequate Police, Fire and
EMS service city wide.
-
Improve and expand city attractions – the Calgary Public Library ,
Calgary Zoo, Heritage Park, Calgary Science Centre and Creative Kids
Museum, and Fort Calgary. Preserve our heritage sites.
- Acknowledge the impact our current economic boom is having on
seniors and low income Calgarians. Seeks ways to ease the burden
increased costs of service and market value assessment places onto
these Calgarians.
