Issues
Gord Lowe is Focused on the Future:
In a fourth term Alderman Gord Lowe will continue to focus of the issues which matter to his constituents, including:
Ward 2:
- Ensuring Ward 2 residents feel safe and secure within their communities, that Police, Fire and other essential services are available.
- Extending the C Train to Rocky Ridge. This extension has been funded and is within the capital budget – however changes to the timing of receipt of the Municipal Sustainable Infrastructure grants has required that the project be delayed one year.
- Improving Shuttle bus service to the LRT stations – particularly in the AM and PM Peaks. Improving Transit service across the Ward and to adjacent employment centres – for example to the Calgary International Airport.
- Managing traffic and noise conditions along John Laurie Boulevard, Country Hills Boulevard, Nose Hill Drive, Sarcee and Shaganappi Trails.
- Establishing aggregate hauling routes which keep gravel trucks off of roads which abut residential areas.
- Working with the Province of Alberta to manage truck noise issues along Stoney Trail.
- Monitoring development in the communities in Symons Valley – Sherwood, Kincora, Evanston, Sage Hill and Nolan Hill to ensure roads and services are provided on a timely basis.
- Managing and monitoring development and redevelopment of land and properties in Ward 2.
- Improving employment and recreation opportunities in Ward 2.
City Wide:
- Continue to improve the multi year budget process to ensure integration of the Capital and Operating budgets and an effective reporting system in order to provide Calgarians with an open, transparent and easily understood budget process which clearly describes how the City collects, spends, controls and reports how taxpayers money is used.
- Ensure essential services – Police, Fire and Bylaw are adequate and properly equipped to foster a feeling of safety and security within our City.
- Transportation and Transit – always a major priority city wide.
- The Environment – expand the curb side recycling program to multi family residences, implement a city wide, cost effective curbside residential garbage collection system and develop a plan for an organics collection and disposal system. Support the expansion of district energy and local generation with in Calgary.
- Continue to work with the Province, the Federal Government and private agencies to develop affordable housing – both rental housing and an attainable housing program.
- Ensure growth pays for itself – work with industry to develop a funding model which is sustainable.
- Work with Sports agencies and organizations to add sports facilities to the City on a City wide basis.
- Continue to expand and improve City attractions – the Calgary Public Library, the Calgary Zoo, Heritage Park, Science Centre and Creative Kids Museum, Fort Calgary and the Aero Space Museum.
- Facilitate expansion of arts and culture venues throughout the City.
- Recognize the impact the economy is having on our seniors and low income citizens. Seek ways to ease the financial and social burden on these Calgarians.
