Working for Ward 2:

Since first being elected in 2001, Alderman Gord Lowe has been a

that matter to Calgarians like you - issues that will shape the future
of our community.

Committed to Calgary:
|
|
|
As a member of City Council, Gord Lowe has taken a stand on a number of
important issues that will shape the health and success of our City and
our citizens.
- Developing and leading Council through a "Shadow Budget" process
which places the full responsibility for the budget and tax
increases fully in the hands of Council, and which will lead to
thorough planning and ultimately a predictable multi-year approach
to budgets.
- Reviewing and revamping the City's Planning Commission, in order
to create a more
disciplined, thoughtful approach to community
planning and growth.
- Helping to develop a Civic Arts Policy that will guide how we
view and fund the Arts.
- Participated in a Cost of Growth Study, Enmax Legacy Parks Fund
and Community Investment Fund to ensure orderly, affordable growth
and a sustained quality of life in Calgary for all Calgarians.
- Participated in the Mayor's Round Table on Affordable Housing
for Calgary.

"Only six on council ... care more for the concerns of citizens
than for the sensibilities of the snivel servants ... Gord (Just The
Facts) Lowe, who studies the budget like it's a sacred text ..." |

"Lowe, 64, retired in 1996 after more than 30 years in the federal civil service. As an alderman, he's turned out to
be quiet and competent, with a good deal of force behind his calm
manner. If the city's budget mess gets sorted out every alderman
will claim a chunk of the credit, but Gord Lowe will deserve a statue on
the steps of city hall." |

"... some alderman, such as Gord Lowe, have been
asking the hard questions too, even as council obsesses about fancy new
rules that can be safely ignored. Thanks to Lowe's request for a
study, the bylaw debate has revealed far more about inadequate
enforcement than any deficiencies in the bylaws themselves." |
