Gord Lowe
Alderman - Ward 2

Vision

  • Gord believes that with a reasoned and considered approach Calgary can maintain the levels and standards of services now enjoyed.
  • Transportation and Transit issues continue to be seen as the number one priority by most residents in Ward 2, and by Calgarians generally. To continue to build the roads, and transit facilities needed long term, sustainable sources of funding must be secured – not unlike the fuel tax rebate agreement negotiated with the Province of Alberta. When, as in the case of the Alberta Fuel Tax Rebate, a funding agreement is reached, the use of these funds must be targeted and not placed into general revenues. This is the only way Council can be responsible and accountable to both Calgarians and other parties to these agreements.
  • Property Tax increases should be kept to the minimum required to maintain front line services in a growing city. A Council directed, multi-year budget and planning process with significant opportunity for public input is absolutely necessary to meet the challenges of growth, sustainability and quality of life in Calgary.
  • Continued growth is imperative to Calgary, but growth must be managed to ensure its impact is considerate in human and environmental terms, and that the city remains an affordable, desirable place in which to live, work and play.
